Office In The New Apartment: Part 1

Living room & Office Combo – Work Spaces – Rue Magazine © 2011

Recently a lot of my creative thoughts have been focused on giving Jack the best office and work space that he can have (in both our current and future homes).  In each scenario, the office is a part of the living room and it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the room – yes I have already figured out the floor plan in the new place.  That means that his office space has to look awesome too, I’m thinking a clutter free but beautifully modern desk, and an attractive yet ergonomic chair are musts.  With these musts a few problems do arise though.  Jack currently has one large monitor as seen below and he plans to purchase a larger one so that he can work on both at the same time.  He also has a gigantic tower that will have to stay since his work requires a lot of memory for his 3D renderings – I think?

In addition, he’s also a clutter bug, not a minimalist.  Filing paperwork does not exist in his in his lifestyle and putting away his supplies doesn’t either.  These issues combined with the ‘MUSTS’ that I described earlier do not add up to an easy solution.

Side Note: If you’re curious about what will be happening to our current desk when we move, need not worry it will become my desk and will probably go in the bedroom or hallway.  Since I only work on a laptop and enjoy using a pretty chair that is not so ergonomic, I will be able to disguise the office functions pretty well with a floral arrangement or dry bar on top.

Our current home office situation – the desk is a Jack creation as well

Moving Update: Limbo

Hello strangers. I’ve been a little MIA recently as a lot has been changing.  Not only am I’m moving to a new home soon-ish, I’m also moving to a new office.  In the early part of June my company is moving it’s offices downtown.  The idea that I have to pack up  practically everything in my life all at once is a bit frustrating.  But, I’m open to change and I’m actually really excited about the work life move. The new offices are going to be great, they’ve taken a ton care and time into designing the most inspiring and beautiful spaces and the location is fabulous. I’ll be right near Madison Square Park and the Flatiron.

When it comes to my personal move, I am in a stickier situation.  We’re in limbo right now. We have to move in the next month, but we still do not have a clear understanding about where we will be living.  We put an offer down on a beautifully amazing Co-op in Brooklyn (yes, we’ll be back in Brooklyn!) and it was accepted!  But I don’t want to get too excited about it yet as the deal could still fall through.  The worst part is that even if we get the place, closing could take forever and we could be homeless for an uncertain amount of time.

But of course with everything up in the air, my mind is still racing with decorating ideas.  I just can’t wait to get my hands on it!  A few awesome aspects to the apartment include:

1. A Foyer! A bonafide foyer! I want to make a big statement with a bold wallpaper and a lovely entryway table!

Brimfield – May 2011

Not only is summer right around the corner, but so is the Flea Market and Antiquing season!  This week was the first of the three 2011 Brimfield Antique Shows, in Brimfield Massachusetts.  Luckily, a few of us from the office were able to take the trip to the show this week.  This was my first visit to Brimfield (even though, I grew up only 30 mins away) and I had a great time searching for both work and play items.  For those of you who have never been or have never even heard of Brimfield, you should definitely try to go sometime.  It’s huge!  There is just so much to see and if you’re looking for something old, vintage or antique, chances are, you’ll find it. . . or something very similar to what you have in mind.  Keeping in mind that I have to move soon, I didn’t want to purchase anything too big or specific.  I’m definitely going back in July with my boyfriend because he really wanted some “military or WW2 stuff”.  I failed on purchasing anything for him, but I feel like thrifting and antiquing is more of a personal thing.  My purchases did include:  A pair of 19th century silhouettes, a 1940′s wool nurse’s cape, and a suitcase to make into a doggy bed all for the total cost of $84.00.  Although, I only ended up bringing home a few things, I took a lot of photos of interesting booths and items.

Check it out.
