DIY: Easy Cushion Upholstery for my Empire Stool

For my latest project I wanted to update the Empire style stool that my mother had given me to coordinate with my dressing table.  The stool is a beautiful example of the Empire Style with the swans, brass finish and X-form.  The cushion however, had seen better days and I thought could use an update.

This project can easily be adjusted to other kinds of stools and furniture, such as common dining chairs with removable seats. For a quick tutorial read on after the jump.

Happy 3rd, Fourth Floor Walk Up!

Fourth Floor Walk Up has been around for 3 years already? Yes! Created when I was planning my travels to Paris for a month, I thought a blog would be a great way for my family and friends to check in on my travels.  Upon coming home, it became a blog about my life.  I was young and on a budget, I wanted to decorate my apartment and needed a place to store my inspiration, thoughts and musings (this was pre-Pinterest!).

Now Fourth Floor Walk Up has grown into a place where other’s can find inspiration and use my projects as a source to learn from. It has also evolved into more than just a virtual space to store pictures and thoughts; to me its like a living thing, with a personality and responsibilities attached.  It’s something to come home to after a long days work, something that needs to be “watered” with content at least once a week and most importantly, something to keep me busy.  For the past 3 years I’ve been journaling my life, documenting my quest for the perfectly curated apartment, and uploading images of my dogs because that’s what I love to do! I’m not sure how long this blog will live for, but here’s to hoping for at least another 3 years. Happy Birthday Bloggy!

Sponsor Giveaway: Jammy – theartofjam.com

Yay! Spring is here and it’s time for picnics, outdoor brunch gatherings and of course tasty jams. In celebration of Fourth Floor Walk Up’s 3 year anniversary we are hosting a Jammy giveaway for three delicious flavors of gourmet, handmade jam. Best of all, the lucky winner can pick which three flavors they prefer!  By the way, these jams would also make for a very special Mother’s Day gift.  Nicole Rustch, the owner and creator of Jammy designs and prepares all of the flavors.  I had to ask Nicole, which flavors are at the top of her list?  “The Strawberry Habanero with Basil for a sweet jam that has a unique, spicy kick and definitely the Strawberry Coconut with Dark Chocolate for a fruity, yet indulgent sweet!”

I’ll choose a winner at random Monday, April, 30 at 9pm EST. GOOD LUCK!!

TO ENTER:

1. Visit the Jammy Etsy shop and figure out which flavors you like most.

2. On Fourth Floor Walk Up leave a comment (by clicking on the comment bubble at the top right corner of this post) letting us know which flavors sound most delicious (unless you’ve tasted them for yourself already – which ones ARE your favorite).

Chic IPad Cases

If you have been looking for a chic case to contain your iPad like I have recently, you may have also realized that there are not too many out there.  I did find a few that are quite lovely and yes, chic. Stephanie Johnson, is a travel enthusiast turned designer with a “Type A” personality who designs travel carrying accessories for the stylish and savvy traveler. In addition to the essentials, she designs beautiful iPad cases that are almost as exciting as the objects they carry.  Anthropologie sells a three colorways but you can also order directly from her website [here].  I chose the Mumbai Tablet Case because I especially love the golden sun motifs.

Another favorite of mine is the Turquoise Desert Refresh iPad Case which has spun golden fibers.

For an iPad case that is a little bit different and slightly more feminine I discovered this darling Chevron iPad case on Etsy.com.  The shop Kailochic has designed a case that can double as a large kisslock clutch! You have to love that clasp!
