Hop Into Spring: Bunny Love

Happy Friday! At last, it’s been a long week! March is hare, I mean here (had to do it) so why not celebrate the lovely bunny objects and accessories of the world? I will always love a good bunny and how great would it be to have a the ceramic one mixed into an art wall above your couch or bed?

Apartment Progress: The Bathroom

The Bathroom – Almost Complete

Other than the holidays things have been a bit busy around here.  A few weeks ago we made some progress on the bathroom.  It seemed to all come together after I spent the whole day painting and Jack installed the fixtures.  The light was a purchase made on a trip upstate, the polished nickel towel rods and toilet paper holder were purchased from Pottery Barn and the shower curtain (second one) arrived in the mail from Burke Decor, after 4 months of being on back order!

If any of you are wondering what the paint color is, well it was mixed.  I purchased Apparition by Benjamin Moore for the room but after painting one wall it seemed to look too much like concrete. I decided to lighten it with Benjamin Moore’s Mascarpone, a warm white that I used as trim in the living room.  It’s a little hard to see in these photos but the mixed result is a light warm gray.

The last two components to finish this room will be the fish prints that we had purchased on the same trip we picked up the light fixture and the bamboo roman shade that I plan to purchase from Home Depot.  The prints are being framed right now by my mother’s favorite frame shop in North East, CT – Killingly Glass (he does a great job and very reasonably priced) and the shade has to be cut to size.

Once I have the finished prints I will photograph them, but I just wanted to give everyone an update on our apartment’s progress.

Living Room: The Inspiration and Progress

Mood Board for the Livingroom

Since we moved into our new apartment we haven’t had a full weekend to dedicate to working on it.  We’ve been to 4 weddings, I signed up for an AutoCad class that met on Saturdays all day (the Saturday part was an accident), and had guests visiting for the off weekends.  With all of this craziness we haven’t managed to accomplish much.  The first few weeks I did some online shopping – resulting in back-ordered products and others that shipped from a third party only arrive with random issues.  I am beginning to think I’m over mail order. In fact I could write an entire post about the issues I’ve had with mail order within the past few months.  For example, it took two tries to receive the correct garbage cans and you would not believe how ecstatic we were when we unpacked them!  It’s amazing how something like a trash can bring such joy to peoples lives. It really is all about the little things. . . .  I’ve also spent a lot of time antiquing – coming home with the purchases of nesting tables, a danish modern chair, some bookends, a french chair for the entryway.

Bathroom in the New Apartment: Part 1

Wow, moving from a place that you rent into a place that you own can be extremely challenging.  Money and board approval aside, the idea of designing a space that is yours and will be until you decide when to leave can be overwhelming.  Luckily our new place is in great shape.  There are a few things that could be better, like the kitchen.  Which is still nice, it’s just not my dream kitchen, yet.

For the time being the changes that we want to make will just be to enhance the look of the apartment.  Such as darkening the floor, updating some of the bathroom fixtures and of course painting/wallpapering. I thought picking out bathroom fixtures and coming up with bathroom ideas would be easy and fun, but it’s actually a little daunting.  I think it’s because I love too many things!  I also don’t have a large budget and I really want to choose pieces that will be timeless.  The overall bones of the bathroom are great, there is a claw-foot tub, a pedestal sink, a window, hexagon floor tiles and subway tiles.

These great features do create new issues however.

1. There isn’t any storage in the bathroom, without a vanity, there isn’t any place to hide the ugly stuff.

2. The  window takes away from necessary wall space that could be used for storage.

3.  The claw-foot tub makes storing bath accessories and products difficult and forces me to purchase a 2nd shower curtain.  If you can’t remember, or haven’t read my older post about the fabulous yet pricey shower curtain I purchased, you would understand my pain.
