Life Through Rose-Colored Lenses

Maybe it’s the lingering recession that has caused the world to perceive life with an attitude that things are better than they really are or maybe it’s something entirely different.  But I’m thinking that subliminally, our perspective and outlook in the future is transcending through fashion, interiors and lifestyle.  A huge trend in all aspects of creative is the use of rose gold or hues that evoke rosieglow.

Paloma Picasso® Love & Kisses Rose Gold Ring from Tiffany & Co

So much so that companies like Tiffany & Co. in honor of their 175 year anniversary as a renowned jeweler, have created a new metal.  As stated by Tiffany, “Tiffany’s new RUBEDO™ metal, marries the richness of gold, the brilliance of silver and the warmth of copper.”  I’ve tried it on, and it’s beautiful on the skin, so flattering. Rubedo™ has all the chic and elevated look of rose gold, but the obtainable price point for the young and trendy (recession proof, perhaps?).

Bigen – Semi-Permenant

For those of you who live in the NYC metro area and like myself can’t afford to get your hair color touched up every 6 weeks, I’ve found a great alternative!  Ricky’s sells this great semi-permenant hair dye that not only is rich is color but is also composed of safe and natural ingredients! The Bigen brand semi-permenant hair dye that comes in 6 different colors ranging from the bluest black to the deepest red.  It is both ammonia and peroxide free and best of all only costs $6.49!

If any my readers has ever looked at my about me page, you’re probably wondering why I’m discussing hair dye.  Towards the end of winter this year, I took the plunge and dyed my hair from a naturally light, sandy blonde to a rich red.  At the time I couldn’t afford the cost of highlighting my hair, and I most certainly wasn’t going to do it on my own.  So I decided if I chose a solid color I would have an easier time of doing the touch-ups myself.  I also wanted to feel like the vixen Christina Hendricks who plays Joan Holloway on AMC’s Mad Men.

The Cut: High Horse Salon

My stylist/hairdresser recently opened a salon of her own after working for the salon Hair Metal for four years.  The Horse Salon is a beautifully designed space by her friend and collegue Iris DeSoto that resembles a Western barbershop, decorated with antiques, sepia-tone photographs and deep mahogany wood fixtures with light marble countertops.

My favorite element is the lighting, the chandeliers I believe were a flee market find, as were the bergere chairs.

Kristi Banister, the owner is laid back, yet cheerful tattoo covered maven. She has great taste and is very honest when it comes to your hair. She’s never given me a bad cut or a cut that made me cry (which is amazing considering that every other hair dresser has caused that.)  The shop and the prices are really reasonable, cuts starting at $60 for a ladies and  $40 for gentlemen.  If you’re ever in the Williamsburg area, I really suggest that one should check the salon out.
